Greener upon Thames invites cross party support...

James Page

Green Parliamentary Candidate, James Page:

I'm delighted to support the campaign to rid the borough of plastic bags. Perhaps delighted is the wrong word at this point, but I will be when it's done. Plastic bags are wholly incompatible with 'one planet living'. They have no lasting value and yet they won't go away. They just fragment to become even more useless, more numerous, and more hazardous pieces.

However it would be wrong to ask for a ban on plastic bags in shops without looking also at our use of them at home in bins. The council should provide plant-based bags that can be used in food waste caddies for example.

We also need to maintain opposition to incineration. Landfilling paper and biodegradables may be worse, but unless and until we sort all our waste properly incineration of potentially hazardous mixed waste should be a definite no.

Plastic. Where do you think it goes?
